Rubbermaid LunchBlox Sandwich Kit {Review}

Back-to-school time is here! (For me as a teacher and for parents all across the country) That means that we are back to packing lunches.

I always try to maximize the amount of food that I have in my tiny lunch bag. In reality, I need to buy a bigger lunch bag, but until then I was able to try out Rubbermaid’s brand new product- the LunchBlox Sandwich Kit.

“The features of this product include:

  • Modular containers snap together in to save space in your lunch bag
  • Kit includes specially designed Blue Ice™ pack that works with LunchBlox containers to keep lunches chilled on the go
  • Containers are perfectly portioned for lunch foods commonly carried away from home
  • Microwave-, dishwasher- and freezer-safe and BPA-free
  • The Sandwich Kit includes a sandwich container sized for regular and specialty breads, two snack containers (perfect for yogurt or nuts) and a snack container (perfect for fruits, vegetables and chips)”

I like these containers mostly because they stack on top of a blue block of ice. Sometimes, depending on what time I get to work, I forget to put my lunch in the faculty lounge refrigerator. Between the Blue Ice™ and my insulated lunch bag, I know that my lunch will still be cold at lunch time (and yes, I have tested this theory). I also like that there’s more room in my lunch bag for other things.

Using my normal rubbermaid containers (which are a bit bulky) I don’t always have room for more snacks. With this, I get to pack my snacks (girl scout cookies today) and other things (like parmesan cheese for my spaghetti) and still drop in chips or whatever else I need.

I did try to stack them without the Blue Ice™ (in my rush to get out of the door) and no, they don’t stack on top of the sandwich container.

So you’ll realize really quickly that you forgot your Blue Ice™.

This kit retails for $12.99 and I think to save space in my lunch bag, I’d buy it. Like I said, most of my containers are very big and my lunch bag can’t accommodate anything else when I carry my large containers to work.

There are other types of LunchBlox kits if the sandwich kit is not for you.

They have:

- “An entrée kit that comes with 1 entrée Container with dividers, 2 Snack Containers, 2 Side Containers, 1 Medium Blue Ice and 1 Small Blue Ice.”

and the salad kit. “This includes 1 Salad Container, 1 Toppings Tray, 1 Salad Dressing Container and 1 Medium Blue Ice.”

My daughter is not carrying lunch to school yet, but I would assume that these are also good ways to help organize your child’s lunch box as well.

How do you usually pack lunch? What do you think of these? Would you buy them? Let me know in the commnets.
